      | Vach ("speech") The Hindu goddess of speech and eloquence, and the 
        mother of the Vedas. Later she was identified with Sarasvati.

        Devi A tiger goddess.

      | Yami In the Vedic tradition, Yami is the mother of mankind. She is the daughter 
        of the sun-god Surya and together with her twin brother Yama they form 
        the first human pair. In Hinduism she is the mother goddess and daughter 
        of Vivasvan. In Tibet, she is the goddess of death who rules of the female 
        spirits of Naraka.

      | Yaparamma A Goddess of commerce.

      | Yogini In Hindu mythology, one of the eight female demons created by and attendant 
        upon Durgha. Sometimes the yoginis are forms of that goddess, capable 
        of being multiplied to as many as ten million.

      | Yoni The origin or primal source of all being. It is represented by a triangle 
        with its apex pointing downward, signifying female sexual organs, particularly 
        the vulva, which in turn symbolizes the mystery of the cosmos. This symbol, 
        by itself of conjoined with the ling, is venerated by the Shaktas (the 
        worshippers of Shakti). Yoni can be literally translated as "womb, 
        origin, source."

      | Zumiang 
        Nui Tribal Creator goddess of the Dhammai. She is the Mother of the earth 
        and the sky. "At first there was neither earth nor sky, Shuzanghu 
        and his wife Zumiang-Nui lived alone...In due time Zumiang-Nui gave birth 
        to a baby-girl, Subbu-Khai-Thung, who is the Earth and to a baby-boy, 
        Jongsuli-Young-Jongbu, who is the Sky. " (in Elwin 1958, p. 13)
